This post is primarily for Clive in Hong Kong, but hopefully it might help others as well. Please excuse the " quality" of the drawings. They are all but "EXACT", and should be fabrication quality.

Please note, there is room for a DEEPER tank in these boats, as there is a lot of foam in the void under them. This will give you what you have already. (only Ski Sporter as far as I know, but might be the same as other 16's...don't know.

Hi I haver a boat built in 1970 and just wanted to find out what year the boat is that you are referencing, just to make sure.

I believe the Ski-Sporter tank shown is the smaller of the ones offered, and will fit any pre-1980 Classic 16. It might fit the newer ones too, I don't know.

Post 234 of my restoration project has the dimensions of my tank.

There were variations, best bet wait until it is apart then measure what you have. You also have the option of adding about and inch height and a few inches in length.

Bill has it right the tank in a skisporter( a 16 skisporter not outboard built from the begining to 1980 when 16 production stopped) is a 23-25 gallon tank made by fabco or florida marine tanks fmt-23dz is their part number. when the 16 came back in the late 80's it had a 40 ish gallon tank and the lift eye moved forward due to the bulkheads moving cause of the larger tank.

their are a few here that have tweaked the tank to get a few more gallons, just make sure if it has a site glass that they have it in the right spot.

florida marine tanks still make the tank if you order it from them, some have used rds too.

Any ideas how to get the tank out? This is an original galvanized from what I can see 25 gallon tank. I cleared out the foam on the sides. It looks like the tank was set in foam and it did a real good job adhering to the tank. I cannot budge it. Help! Also where did you go to get the replacement?

I doubt it is galvanized, more likely what is called Turn steel with riveted baffles in that era hull.

Thanks for the reply MOP. It has that look from the top as being galvanized. A ny ideas on removal? I have all the foam removed on the sides but it is still firmly held in place.

Some tanks come out easily, some are monster projects.

I am assuming you have the deck off the boat while you are doing this? If so, you might have to apply some real lifting/prying pressure to break the tank free. If the tank is shot, then you don't really have to worry about damaging it during the removal process.
