I am looking for some baseline information to get me going in the right direction. I let the guy
that bought my Formula have my GPS and have not got a new one yet, so I am missing some
valuable data, but here is what I have: 1997 22 classic, 454 Magnum (carb, 350 hp), 1.5 ratio
Bravo drive, 25p mirage plus prop. WOT is only turning 4400 rpm assuming tach is accurate.
What type is slip does this hull/drive combo produce? I was assuming about 10%? The
speedometer showed 66 - 68 mph, which is obviously very, very optimistic. I was figuring that
62 was more realistic. Does anyone have similar set up with this prop? What kind of rpm and
speeds are you seeing? How much power am I going to have to add in order to get an
honest 70 mph out of it?

On a completely different note, where can I find a more "classic" looking stern pole. I hate the
cheap look of the perko unit on the boat.

Mark Horne and Polly (there is an abriviation) have a similar set-up. He has an Alpha. It is a wonderful ride. I was in it last weekend. He see's 62-64 GPS depending on people. I believe it is frmrtex.

Lots of info here...Find him...

RPMs sound a little low. Try a 23pitch prop.
1995 22 Classic 454 Mag (Gen V) 350HP w/23 Mirage Plus
67MPH (GPS) @ 4750RPMs(revlimiter)
About 420 Crank HP to run 70 with a Mirage Plus wink

I thought the same thing, so I tried my cousins lab finished 23p mirage (extra cup added, supposed to act like a 24p), and the engine was on the rev limiter long before wide open. I double checked the manual and the operating range for this motor should be 4600 - 5000 rpm. My tach was showing about 4600 when I started to hit the rev limiter. I guess the tach could be wrong?

My manual says 4600-5000 also, but on the Gen V spark arrestor cover the small print reads 4400-4600.
My rev limiter kicked in hard at 4750 and when I switched over to MSD I had valve train clatter (weak springs which are now gathering dust  ) at 4900RPMs.
